Year after year, we look forward to keeping up with the best electric scooters in Australia. This year is no different, and we are already seeing many contenders up for the title of the best electric scooter of 2024.

We still have industry powerhouses such as Segway-Ninebot, which released some remarkable units such as the MAX G2. Other brands like Pure Electric, which has given Australia its first fully-folding electric scooter with a forward riding position, Fiido, and Inokim complete the list.

We usually update our top electric scooter rankings twice a year, and now we are excited to share with you the best e-scooters for the first half of 2024.

The list below isn’t presented in any particular order, but each of these models have impressed us in a variety of ways. It isn’t all about speed & power—practicality, versatility, and durability also play a factor. In other words, our list includes a variety of models for speed demons, commuters, first-time riders, and all those in between.

Segway-Ninebot MAX G2

The Segway MAX G2 originally appeared in last year’s list, and it makes another appearance this year, to no one’s surprise.

First up, suspension. Featuring a front & rear hydraulic suspension, the scooter efficiently soaks up lumps & bumps while providing a supremely comfortable ride.

There’s the powerful 450W motor, a higher 120 KG rider weight limit, and the inclusion of turn signals on the handlebars. Plus, compared to its predecessors, the MAX G2 features a larger deck, wider handlebars, and a higher stem with a more upright angle. All these come together to produce a very stable & comfortable ride.

Segway also went and added Find My iPhone integration so you can measure your G2’s whereabouts from your phone. They added a new controller algorithm called RideyLONG™ to squeeze extra range from the battery.

Coming in at 24.3 KG, the G2 is quite heavier than the earlier MAX models, but for the indicators and suspension alone, if the increased weight is the only “sacrifice” we’re making, we’ll make do.

Segway-Ninebot E2 Pro

When we mentioned earlier that our list isn’t all about power and speed, we were thinking largely of this electric scooter.

Its sibling, the E2 Plus, was a part of our list last year. This year, it’s inevitably replaced by the top model of the lineup: the Segway-Ninebot E2 Pro.

Not designed for ludicrous rides, the E2 Pro is the perfect entry-level commuter e-scooter for riders who don’t need a lot of power and speed or triple braking systems, full suspension, and all-terrain capability. They just need something basic, functional, and dependable to help them get around with more ease.

A 350W motor provides a law-abiding top speed of 25 KPH, while a 275Wh battery produces a good 40 KM range. It has a modest climb angle of around 10° and a capable dual braking system (with a front drum brake and rear electronic brake).

The Segway E2 Pro is ideal for people who just need to do short, local trips and great for people who need to carry it around, or easily fold it into the back of cars or leave them under desks at work.

And coming in at under $900, it’s a bargain. That gets you Segway’s signature reliability on an electric scooter that does the job—and does it really well.

Pure Advance Series

It’s the second year the Advance has ended up on this list because it introduced us to something we haven’t seen in Australia: a forward-facing riding position.

Aside from being unique, there are real safety benefits to facing forward while riding. The first is the ability to look evenly over both shoulders, particularly important when riding in traffic. Also, it is generally a very comfortable position that reduces strain on our bodies.

The Advance series gives us more than just a new riding stance, however. It also features a slimline design that makes the Advance scooters up to 70% slimmer than most e-scooters when folded. You can hide it under desks. You can easily place it in your car. You can even hide it behind doorways. It’s very practical.

Like all models in the Pure Advance range, great design is also backed up by solid performance. You’ll enjoy a 500W motor with a 10° hill climb ability, a 120 KG rider weight, a 16.2 KG unit weight, and a range of between 40 & 50 KM depending on whether you choose the Advance or the Advance+.

And if that’s not enough, you’ll also get handlebar + rear footboard indicators, an IP65 water resistance rating, puncture-proof tyres, and Pure Electric’s Active Steering Stabilisation that returns the front wheel to facing forward when you aren’t actively turning.

Pure Advance Flex

At first glance, you may think the Flex is the same as the Pure Advance we’ve just detailed above. While you’re not entirely wrong, you wouldn’t be entirely right either, because the Flex adds one key feature that makes it the most practical electric scooter available in Australia today: an entirely collapsible design.

Most electric scooter’s stems fold backwards to sit parallel to the frame, and that’s good. It makes them easier to carry and store. But there is still no scooter in Australia right now that allows you to fold the handlebars down, collapse the stem & then fold it backwards, fold up the deck, and then fold the entire body in half.

Except the Pure Advance Flex.

Featuring a 5-point folding mechanism, this is the most compact electric scooter you can get on the market. When it’s not in use you can hide it away in cupboards, behind doors, and generally out of sight. Moreover, it’s small enough to comfortably sit in most car boots, even if you have a hatchback.

It’s also easier to take with you indoors. If you’ve ridden it to the shops, you can fold it in such a way that you can pull it around like a suitcase, meaning you don’t have to leave it unattended.

Beyond the unique folding mechanism, the Advance Flex keeps up with its siblings in terms of speed with a legally-abiding 25 KPH top speed. Pure Air³ Series

Also by Pure Electric, the Pure Air³ range features a sideways-facing riding position that many riders will be more familiar with. Outside of that, though, it keeps up with the Advance range in every way. So, if you’re after Pure Electric’s class-leading safety features but prefer a more traditional ride, this series is for you.

Coming in three versions, the Air³ base, the Air³ Pro, and the Air³ Pro+, you’ll be getting a 25 KPH top speed, a 30-50 KM maximum range, an IP65 water-resistance rating, and a 120-KG capacity.

Powered by a 350W motor (Air³) or a 500W motor (Air³ Pro & Air³ Pro+), you’ll be able to climb hills up to 10°. With a unit weight of just 15.9 KG, you’ll be able to carry it easily should you need to climb stairs or lift it regularly.

In terms of features, all the Air³ versions come with puncture-resistant tyres, handlebar indicators, concealed drum brakes, regenerative braking, app integration, and Active Steering Stabilisation.

Ultimately, if you love the Pure Advance but would prefer to keep the sideways-facing riding position, the Pure Air³ is perfect for you. And what’s more, it’s quite a bit cheaper as well, with prices starting from $999.

Inokim OXO

Inokim has always been around, as it’s one of the world’s OG electric scooter manufacturers. They’ve improved their lineup with continuous research and development, and now we’re looking at the newest version of their top-of-the line Inokim electric scooter: the Inokim OXO.

Dual 1000W brushless hub motors send this unit to a comfortable 65 KPH top speed, but what sets the Inokim apart from other rides is the incredible 110-KM maximum range. It’s a heavy-duty, powerhouse ride and certainly not for the faint of heart. That’s why it’s so much fun to ride.

It’s a premium e-scooter with a sturdy design & excellent build quality. A wide deck provides a comfortable and stable ride, and with a weight limit of 120 KG, it can comfortably accommodate riders even when travelling up steep hills.

It also ships with front & rear suspension, and while dual suspension e-scooters aren’t new, Inokim has patented a unique adjustable suspension system that allows riders to customise the height of their ride. It can be lowered on flat & smooth terrains for better stability at high speeds, or increased to allow for greater ground clearance on rough terrain.

In other words, the Inokim scooters are the only scooters we can think of that allows you to adjust the firmness of the ride.

Inokim OX Super

The Inokim OX Super made it to several lists last year and was Tech Advisor’s best high-end electric scooter of 2023. It’s not surprising, as the OX is a truly phenomenal scooter with premium specs and build.

Now, most performance electric scooters aren’t lightweight or slim, and this is definitely true for the Inokim OX Super. Although quite portable thanks to a good folding mechanism, the OX will be a bit difficult to carry around because of its hefty 28-KG unit weight. However, the bulky frame does make way for a spacious deck that adds comfort and stability to your ride.

Like other Inokims, the craftsmanship on the OX Super is superb. Performance-wise, there’s a lot of power on the OX coming from a 1000W motor, which propels you to speeds of up to 44 KPH. It also delivers an incredible range of up to 97 KM on a single charge.

The Inokim OX Super is one of the best, most versatile high-end electric scooters, and you’re getting all the latest features and technology at a price point much lower than other scooters of the same category.

Inokim Quick 4 Super

The Quick 4 is a really well-balanced electric scooter. It has a healthy, controllable top speed of 40 KPH thanks to its 600W motor. It has a solid 70 KM range, which is higher than most other e-scooters at its price point. It can carry riders up to 120KG. It has dual suspension. It has an adjustable handlebar height. And after all that, it weighs just 22 KG.

It’s a great option for someone who wants an electric scooter that can fulfil a variety of roles. Its range makes it a great full-journey commuter (i.e. from your house directly to work), but it's light enough to be a last-mile commuter as well.

Inokim’s patented adjustable suspension allows you to customise ground clearance while also providing a cushioned and comfortable ride. The adjustable handlebars are great if you need to share your ride with someone else who may be a different height to you, and it compacts down into an easily storable shape thanks to collapsible handlebars.

The folding mechanism itself is the main reason this e-scooter is called the Quick. You can fold the stem down and lock it in place using its quick release mechanism within 4 seconds—faster than you can read this sentence out loud.

It’s practical, convenient, competitively-priced, and great looking, and we’re glad to have it in our lineup.

Inokim Light 2 Max

We also have the Light 2 Max, Inokim’s lightweight commuter electric ride that doesn’t look anything like your regular e-scooter. Design-wise, like all Inokim electric scooters, the Light 2 Max is far from generic; instead, it has a distinctly robust look that’s different from other brands.

Tipping the scales at only 14 KG, the Inokim Light 2 Max is also the lightest electric scooter we have at Electric Kicks. This makes it ideal for first-or-last-mile commutes, as it’s really easy to carry on public transportation. Similarly, if you have to bring your ride upstairs, this e-scooter hits the sweet spot.

Now, while it’s a lot lighter than most commuter e-scooters, the Inokim Light 2 Max is faster and more powerful. Thanks to a 350W motor, it is capable of reaching speeds up to 34 KPH. It also covers up to 40 kilometres on a single charge. These specs are definitely not at par with performance e-scooters (because it’s not one), but they’re great if you require more speed and power for your commutes.

For only $1199, you also get a UL-certified battery (as with the rest of the Inokim lineup). Beyond speed and performance, you’re also getting a completely safe electric scooter that meets the highest safety benchmarks in the industry.

Anyhill UM2

The Anyhill UM2 has consistently filled a place in our lineup as the first (and only) non-seated electric scooter in Australia with a removable battery. It isn’t just any battery either. It’s a 36V 10Ah lithium-ion battery with LG cells—that means the battery is about as reliable as batteries get.

The fact you can remove it adds an extra layer of practicality to the Anyhill UM2. First, you can conveniently charge it anywhere, as you only need to charge the battery instead of the entire scooter. On top of that, if you keep a second battery with you, by replacing a drained battery with a fully-charged spare, you can easily double your range from 40 KM to 80 KM.

Aside from the swappable battery, the UM2 covers just about everything. Its 450W motor allows you to reach 40 KPH and climb inclines up to 20%. Plus, thanks to a wide and sturdy structure, this has one of the highest max capacities among commuter e-scooters: up to 136 KG.

It’s a good little number, and its current price of $1,299 makes it a serious value for money as well.

Fiido Q2

Completing the lineup is the only seated electric scooter on the list. While its predecessor, the Fiido Q1, was moderate, the Fiido Q2 is a beast. With dual motors (400W front, 800W rear) it can reach speeds up to 45 KPH and tackle angles of up to 30%. You won't be left wanting for range either, as its massive 1253Wh battery offers a potential 100 KM ride.

To help you safely and confidently control your ride even at high speeds, the Fiido Q2 is equipped with high-performance hydraulic brakes. Plus, to keep you safe especially at night (or during foggy mornings), the Q2 keeps you visible with front and rear LED lights as well as brake and turn signals.
