Which Aventon E-Bike is Right For You?

Aventon, one of the biggest electric bike brands in the US, has taken the Australian market by storm. Then again, this doesn’t surprise us, as Aventon offers incredible value and performance, which rivals (and sometimes even surpasses) more expensive brands.

All About Aventon

Aventon started out as a manufacturer of traditional bicycles but quickly rose to prominence for its innovative and award-winning designs, placing a clear preference for integrating cutting-edge technology to create lightweight and aerodynamic rides.

Then, as electric cars became more commonplace, Aventon saw the potential of electric bikes to revolutionise urban mobility. Hence, in 2018, the company released its first electric bike: the first-generation Pace 500.

The Pace turned the electric bike world on its head with its sleek and stylish design—a departure from the cumbersome e-bikes of the time. It was an instant success and established Aventon as one of the best in the industry.

Since then, Aventon has discontinued its traditional bike line altogether and shifted its focus to electric bikes. Today, the company continues to grow, expanding rapidly across the globe and expanding its fleet to break down barriers and move the e-bike industry forward.

What’s Great About Aventon

We love Aventon's design philosophy for their electric bikes. They're not bulky and clunky, but rather elegant and understated, just like traditional bicycles.

Aventon believes in recreating the feeling of riding a traditional bike, delivering an intuitive and responsive performance so that riders can focus on the road ahead, not the bike beneath them. By integrating a torque sensor that naturally amplifies your pedalling efforts as well as a robust motor and an efficient battery, an Aventon has all the features you need in an electric bike.

Now, which model fits your needs the best? Let's find out based on your riding preferences.

Are you primarily commuting in the city? Get the Level.2

$3,499 - Step Through

Aventon Level.2

If your riding needs mainly require commuting in urban settings, the best Aventon e-bike for you is the Level.2. The quintessential commuter e-bike in the Aventon range, the Level.2 delivers an impressive power and speed that almost belies its unassuming appearance—all without the bulk and heft of other electric bikes.

This is not to say that the Level.2 is light. At 24 kg, it’s not exactly a featherweight; however, it is considerably lighter than other e-bikes of this category. Though it takes a bit more muscle to lift and transport (especially when compared to the Aventon Soltera.2, which we’ll cover later), the task is still manageable.

When you think about it, it’s actually impressive that Aventon kept the Level.2 at this weight, given that it has a powerful 500W rear hub motor that can reach speeds of up to 45 kph, a big 672Wh battery that gives it a mileage of 97 km, hydraulic brakes, and a suspension.

Ride Quality and Handling

Aside from looking like a traditional bike, the Level.2 also rides like one. Its soft seat and adjustable saddle make long-distance rides more comfortable, while the upright riding position is easy on the back and shoulders, even with a backpack.

One of the surprising things about the Level.2 is its ability to handle off-road trails. While not a dedicated off-road or mountain e-bike, it is equipped with a front suspension that allows it to glide over gravel and light paths quite well. Keep this in mind if you need to explore an alternate route to reduce your commute time.

For stopping, the ebike uses responsive hydraulic disc brakes, which is a necessary feature considering how fast it can go.

Performance

The biggest upgrade to the Aventon Level.2 is the torque sensor, which is much more intuitive than a cadence sensor. Unlike cadence sensors that only measure your pedalling rate, torque sensors actually measure the amount of force you are applying to the pedals (here’s a more thorough explanation of torque sensors vs. cadence sensors). In effect, what you get is a smoother and more predictable riding experience.

The Aventon Level.2's throttle is also highly responsive and delivers power in a smooth and controlled manner, without any sudden surges or jolts. This prevents the bike from jerking forward or accelerating unsteadily for a ride that’s easy to control, even for cautious beginners. It’s also great for traffic lights and bottom of hills, allowing the rider to get an easy start without changing gears up and down

Apart from its throttle, the Level.2 comes with Shimano 8 speed gear that allows you to shift between 8 different gear ratios. With this in place, the bike can handle different riding conditions, including climbing small to moderate-sized hills while maintaining your speed.

Aventon Level.2

Safety

Safety features are essential on any commuter ride, be it a commuter ebike or a commuter electric scooter. In this regard, the Level.2 has a front headlight and rear lights that are stylishly integrated into the frame and the rear fender.

Speaking of fenders, the Level.2 already comes with front and rear fenders out of the box, so you're protected from splashes of water and mud at no extra cost.

Possible Cons

For a commuter ebike, the Aventon Level.2 doesn’t come with a bell or a horn, although you can purchase one if you need it. And while it has a bright lighting system, it does not yet have turn signals, which we hope to see in the next version.

Summary

Whether it’s on a paved street or a gravel road, the Aventon Level.2 is the perfect commuter e-bike. It's a versatile bike that has the right combination of power, speed, range, and all-terrain capability to handle almost any type of riding situations you will face in your daily commutes.

The Level.2 is right for you if:

Consider another model if:

You live in a predominantly urban or metropolitan area.

You live in a predominantly suburban or rural area.

You enjoy the feeling of riding a regular bike during your commutes.

You need to climb steep hills or go over more challenging terrain.

Your commutes are long, or you need to cover long distances between charges.

Do you need a reliable off-roader? Get the Aventure.2

Aventon Aventure.2

If you’re not looking for a steady commuter but rather a beast that can tackle rugged and gnarly terrain, you need Aventon’s fat-tyre electric bike, the Aventure.2. With oversized 4-inch tyres that can handle difficult surfaces (think sand or snow), this is a fun yet powerful bike that’s perfect for off-road adventures.

While the Aventure.2 retains Aventon's design philosophy, it's anything but slender or lightweight. Instead, it has an imposing look thanks to the aforementioned large tires and a thick, beefy frame that contribute to its 35-kg total weight.

In contrast to the subtle Level.2, the Aventure.2 commands presence on the trails. Fitted with a 750W motor, it delivers a breathtaking 45-kph top speed. It has also been upgraded to cover longer distances of up to 96 kilometres—a far cry from its predecessor’s 72-km range.

Ride Quality and Handling

Characteristic of all Aventon models, the Aventure.2 offers a comfortable ride for such a powerful ebike. Similar to the Level.2, it has a soft seat and an upright riding position, which helps you stay relaxed even when riding at high speeds and on uneven terrain.

The Aventure.2 is capable of handling a variety of riding conditions, a feat made possible by the combination of oversized tyres and a front suspension fork with 80mm travel. The fat tyres provide enough traction over loose surfaces, while the suspension absorbs impact when you ride over rocks and tree roots.

Riding the Aventure.2 almost feels like riding on an electric dirt bike. It’s quick, easy, and exhilarating, and it does not require a lot of effort to get up to speed and maintain momentum. At the same time, it’s never dangerously fast thanks to its efficient and powerful hydraulic brakes.

Performance

The addition of a torque sensor made the Aventure.2 responsive and easier to manage and control. Despite being packed with power, it never moves forward with an unexpected jolt or erratic acceleration. Instead, the torque sensor ensures that the bike matches your pedalling perfectly, whether you're on tracks or forest trails.

Along with the torque sensor, the Aventure.2 is also equipped with an 8-speed Shimano gear set that, together with the motor, made for effortless scaling of inclines. With such excellent climbing capabilities, you don’t have to exert a lot of effort if you want to conquer steep mountains without sacrificing speed and comfort (especially if you use the throttle). The gears were also quite easy to shift and always performed smoothly.

Aventon Aventure.2

Safety

Built into the Aventure.2 is a complete lighting system that consists of a front light, rear brake lights that turn on whenever you activate the brake, and new turn signals. The ebike is also equipped with fenders that protect you against the elements, plus a rear rack that allows you to ride with cargo in tow.

For an off-roader, it’s also important to understand the level of protection you get against water and ingress. That said, the Aventure.2 is rated IPX4, which means it is resistant to water jets from any direction, including raindrops and splashes from a wet road.

Possible Cons

While the Aventon Aventure.2 is not incredibly heavy for a fat-tyre electric bike, this is not the right option if you are looking for a lighter off-road ride.

Summary

Here’s something to think about if you want an electric bike that can do it all. Although the Aventure.2 is specially designed for off-roading, it’s versatile enough to also handle commutes on all terrains. Granted, it’s not the ideal commuter choice in the Aventon range (we have the Level.2 and the Soltera.2 for that), but it is safe and stable enough to double as one. This is also a good idea if you rarely commute and wouldn’t need a dedicated commuter ebike.

The Aventure.2 is great for you if:

Consider another model if:

You need a versatile off-roader that can handle almost any type of terrain.

You need a more lightweight electric bike.

You want to own an ebike with excellent climbing capabilities.

You primarily need a commuter ebike for city riding.

You want to ride over long distances.

Do you prefer a lightweight ride? Get the Soltera.2

$2,199 - Step Over

$2,199 - Step Through

Aventon Soltera.2

For commuters who require a more portable ride, we highly recommend the Aventon Soltera.2. The other models may tower over the svelte Soltera.2, but make no mistake. The latter is a lightweight and compact package packed with power and features you’d typically find on more expensive electric bikes.

Weighing in at only 20 kg—a weight comparable to (and even lighter than) many electric scooters—the Soltera.2 is a great choice for riders who need a nimble and agile e-bike that's easy to carry and transport. Its sleek and minimalist profile complements its purpose: to weave through traffic without taking up too much space.

With its 350W motor and 345.6Wh battery, the Soltera.2 reaches a 32-kph top speed and gives you a max range of 74 km. Although modest compared to the other models in the Aventon range, the figures match the Soltera.2’s lightweight frame and delivers enough power for daily commutes and rides.

Ride Quality and Handling

Despite prioritising portability and function, the Soltera.2 delivers smooth and comfortable rides. The seat is soft and well-padded, and the forward upright riding position is ideal for city riding. However, the 620mm handlebars are slightly narrower than the Level.2's 680mm handlebars, so if you have a broader build, you may want to consider the latter instead.

Without a suspension, it’s clear that the Soltera.2 is designed for the urban landscape and shouldn’t be used off-road. While the tyres soak up some vibrations from rough patches, you will feel the road beneath you when you ride, so it’s best to use the bike on smooth surfaces.

The tradeoff for this is the Soltera.2's effortless manoeuvrability. You can ride it anywhere in the city, from the streets to your university campus or office complex.

Performance

The torque sensor is a crucial component of every Aventon e-bike. In the case of the Soltera.2, the power assistance is responsive but subtle, so you still feel like you're pedalling a regular bike. This is ideal for riders who prefer a more physical cycling experience, whether it's for fitness or the sheer fun of it.

When riding through congested streets with frequent stops and starts, it’s essential to be able to shift gears quickly to keep up with the flow of traffic. With the Soltera.2’s Shimano 7-speed rear derailleur, shifting between gears is smooth and easy.

Because the bike is lightweight, pedalling is not at all difficult. But in case you need more power (when you’re tired or when you need to climb inclines), the Soltera.2’s sensor and motor would step in and provide the assistance you need. Of course, with its power limitations, the bike will understandably struggle with steep hills.

Aventon Soltera.2

Safety

The Aventon Soltera.2 comes with a bright headlight, integrated brake lights, and blinking turn signals for low-light visibility and seamless communication with other road users. However, unlike the two models previously described, the Soltera.2 does not come with fenders or a rear rack.

Possible Cons

The Soltera.2 is a well-equipped bike for its price, but it doesn't have hydraulic brakes, which may be a dealbreaker for some riders. On the other hand, mechanical brakes keep costs low, making the Soltera.2 a more affordable and accessible option.

Summary

The Aventon Soltera.2 is a stylish and excellent ebike that is specifically designed for regular commuters who prefer a lightweight and portable ride. It is lighter than many electric bikes, yet it delivers decent speed, a nice range, and an exceptional overall performance. It is also compact—a perfect choice for people with smaller cars and limited storage spaces.

The Soltera.2 is great for you if:

Consider another model if:

You commute within the city.

You live in a suburban or rural area.

You need a lightweight and portable ride for commuting.

You require a ride that can handle various terrains.

You have a smaller car or limited storage space at home.

You need a more powerful ebike.

Are the mountain trails calling your name? Get the Ramblas

$3,999 - Shop Now

aventon ramblas emtb borealis couple mountain

If you dream of riding over rugged mountain trails, it’s important to know a regular electric bike might not cut it. Enter the Aventon Ramblas—Aventon’s newest electric mountain bike (eMTB). Both powerful and versatile, the Ramblas excels on almost any riding situation, tackling technical terrain while being agile enough for city commutes.

While other Aventon electric bikes are equipped with hub motors, the Ramblas comes fitted with the brand’s first-ever mid-drive motor. This increases efficiency, enhances torque, and results in a more natural riding feel. In the context of mountain biking, a mid-drive motor allows for better weight distribution, which is crucial for navigating and manoeuvring on rough terrain.

Plus, Aventon’s intelligent mid-drive motor allows riders to personalise and fine-tune their ride, thus adapting to different situations like scaling steep climbs or maintaining traction on loose surfaces like rocks and tree roots.

The Ramblas also holds the distinction of being the only Class I e-bike in Aventon’s current lineup. It does not come with a throttle; instead, it is pedal assist only, with the motor cutting off once you reach a speed of 32 kph.

Ride Quality and Handling

Multiple factors come together to get the Aventon Ramblas to deliver one of the smoothest rides possible on electric bikes. For starters, this eMTB is pretty lightweight at 24 kg—a mere 4 kilograms heavier than the Aventon Soltera.2, a lightweight commuter e-bike.

The Ramblas also sports an overall manoeuvrable design for navigating difficult trails. Its hardtail frame, which makes it reminiscent of traditional mountain bikes, translates to quicker handling and better climbing power. This also means that long-time cyclists wouldn’t have any trouble adjusting to this eMTB.

aventon ramblas emtb borealis guy jump

Performance

While the motor power on this Class I ebike seems moderate at 250W, the Ramblas’ strength lies in torque output. The 100NM torque on this eMTB gives you a significant advantage when it comes to hill-climbing, handling, and acceleration.

This, combined with the versatile 12-speed SRAM NX drivetrain, gives you the perfect setup for any riding situation— steep climbs, technical trails, or city cruising. At the end of every ride, no matter where your adventures take you, superior hydraulic disc brakes are there to ensure maximum control and stopping power.

Without a doubt, the Ramblas is a powerful and versatile electric bike. However, when you add impressive range to the mix, you get a ride that covers all the bases. Thanks to its 708 Wh LG battery, the mountain bike is able to cover up to 128 kilometres on a single charge. Whether you’re exploring remote trails or commuting long-distances, the ability to ride farther cements the Ramblas’ reputation as an all-terrain champ.

Safety

The Aventon Ramblas prepares its rider for any situation, whether it’s for unforeseen challenges in off-road environments or the visibility required for city riding. Hence, the Ramblas includes a bright LED headlight that you can easily clamp onto your handlebars.

Like all Aventon electric bikes, the Ramblas is also UL 2849 certified, which means it meets the highest safety standards for electric rides.

Finally, you don’t have to worry about riding in less-than-ideal conditions, as the Aventon Ramblas sports an ultra-high IP67 rating that offers a very high level of protection against dust and water. This means the Ramblas can definitely handle dust from loose terrain, rain, puddles, and even shallow creeks without problems.

aventon ramblas emtb borealis girl water

Possible Cons

This eMTB tackles mountain trails and handles city commutes, too. But, if your riding needs are mainly city-based, with only the occasional off-road adventure, keep in mind that the Ramblas lacks rear lights and turn signals, which are essential for city riding.

Summary

Impressive torque, extended range, and sharp handling come together to create a truly versatile electric mountain bike. Built to conquer mountain trails and glide over cityscapes, the Aventon Ramblas is the perfect eMTB for riders who demand peak performance on any adventure—wherever the trail, or road, may lead.

The Ramblas is great for you if:

Consider another model if:

You are a mountain biker seeking to upgrade your ride.

Your needs primarily involve urban commuting.

You value versatility and need an eMTB that tackles both trails and commutes.

You prefer the extra assistance of a throttle in your ride.

You are looking for a ride that can cover long-distance adventures.

Aventon Pace 500.3

The Aventon Pace 500.3 is a vintage-inspired e-bike that's perfect for cruising around in style. With its comfortable upright riding position and puncture-resistant tyres, it's the ideal companion for leisurely rides at relaxed paces.

At 23.5 kg, it is just a touch lighter than the Level.2. However, the Pace 500.3 takes a much more minimalist approach by using clean and straight lines throughout its frame. To soften this almost rigid look, the e-bike sports swept handlebars to make it look more dynamic and reminiscent of the classic cruiser style.

The Pace 500.3 might be designed for enjoyable cruising, but it is capable of impressive speeds, reaching up to 45 kph thanks to its 500W motor. Plus, its fully-integrated 48V battery gives you a remarkable max range of 96 km. So, whether you’re in the mood for a quick burst of speed or for a long leisurely ride, the ebike can adjust to your pace.

Ride Quality and Handling

Our favourite component of the Pace 500.3 has to be the saddle with built-in springs, which absorb bumps and vibrations from the road. They ensure a surprisingly comfortable ride despite the absence of a suspension, especially when you take your cruising to dirt trails or rough pavements.

To keep your rides easy and breezy, the Pace 500.3 also features swept-back handlebars that keep you in a comfortably upright riding position. This design does not only ensure your comfort but also provides you with a better view of the road.

With these components, there is no doubt you can fully utilise the ebike’s advertised range, as you can easily cover longer distances without experiencing fatigue or discomfort. And because it is equipped with hydraulic brakes, you can expect exceptional stopping power in various riding conditions.

Performance

Just like the rest of the Aventon range, the Pace 500.3 has been given a torque sensor upgrade, enhancing this e-bike’s responsiveness and efficiency. With this intuitive pedalling assistance, you can opt to ride around with minimal effort, barely breaking a swear, which completes the laidback cruising experience.

The Pace 500.3 features a throttle-on-demand feature (which, by the way, is present in every Aventon model) that removes the delay between switching from pedal-assist to throttle mode. In other words, with this technology, you can easily accelerate from a complete standstill without the need to pedal first. This comes in handy if you find yourself in a stop-and-go situation or if you have to manoeuvre your bike in tight spaces.

If you live in a hilly area, you’d be happy to know that the Pace 500.3 has excellent climbing abilities. Thanks to its 8-speed gear and powerful torque sensor, the bike maintains your momentum as you ascend peaks and inclines.

Aventon Pace 500.3

Safety

A major upgrade you can find in this version of the Pace is the integrated turn signals for increased road safety and rider visibility. This feature allows you to communicate your intentions, which reduces the risk of accidents.

The ebike also has puncture-resistant tyres so you don’t have to worry about flats as well as reflective sidewalls for better visibility when riding in low-light conditions.

Possible Cons

While the Pace 500.3 comes equipped with premium components like hydraulic brakes, Shimano 8-speed rear derailleur, and indicators, you might want to consider another bike if you want a suspension or if you need racks and fenders as standard included accessories.

Summary

The Aventon Pace 500.3 is a beautifully built ebike that adapts to your pace, whether it’s for effortless cruising or breathtaking adventures. This versatility, which is amplified by the throttle-on-demand technology, allows you to easily switch back and forth between laid-back commutes and challenging rides.

The Level.2 is great for you if:

Consider another model if:

You need a versatile ebike that can handle both practical and recreational rides.

You prefer a more aggressive and sportier riding position.

You enjoy cruising, with emphasis on a relaxed upright riding position.

You require a ride that can tackle more challenging terrain.

You appreciate a good combination of speed, range, and climbing capabilities.

Is a foldable fat-tyre e-bike right up your alley? Get the Sinch.2.

$2,899 - Shop Now

Aventon Sinch.2

If you need an electric bike that folds for convenient storage and transportation, Aventon has you covered. Designed to be more portable than your average ebike, the Sinch.2 is the answer if you have limited storage space at home or at work or if you need to stow it away in your vehicle when you travel.

The Aventon Sinch.2 comes with a central hinge that allows you to easily fold it in half to reduce its size. Thanks to this easy yet secure folding mechanism, the ebike remains stable and wobble-free when you ride it.

While the Sinch.2 is compact, it is not exactly lightweight. Its weight of 31 kg actually makes it one of the heavier models in the Aventon range, which means it will require some effort to lift and carry. Then again, as it is a folding fat-tyre electric bike, its robust build and heavy-duty components are evidence that it can withstand demanding riding situations.

Beyond its space-saving design and all-terrain capability, the Sinch.2 delivers a top speed of 32 kph and an impressive range of up to 88 km.

Ride Quality and Handling

Because it is equipped with oversized tyres and a front suspension fork, which work together for traction and stability, you don’t really feel the road when you ride the Sinch.2. When you add Aventon’s comfortable saddle to the equation, the result is a smooth ride regardless of the terrain you encounter.

Despite being foldable, riding the Aventon never feels shaky or unsteady. In fact, because of the bike’s solid and premium construction, it’s easy to forget that you’re riding a folding e-bike. It performs really well on any terrain, but it shines when you take it to challenging landscapes like sand and rocky trails.

Unlike the fat-tyre Aventure.2, the Sinch.2 does not have hydraulic brakes. Instead, they are equipped with Tektro mechanical brakes. But aside from being just as strong and responsive as hydraulic brakes, they are there for a reason: to prevent potential fluid leaks that can happen as a result of pinched brake lines from constant folding and unfolding.

Performance

While its folding design is its best-known feature, the Sinch.2 delivers a remarkable performance on both paved roads and rugged off-road trails. The new torque sensor does the heavy lifting if you need more power to handle different terrains or to scale challenging inclines—but because it syncs to your efforts, the ride never feels overpowered or overwhelming.

It’s important to note that the Sinch.2 is not intended for flying off the trails. Aside from its modest 32-kph top speed, its thick frame and fat tyres add weight that can slow you down. However, you can expect stable rides with enough power to climb up hills and sustain consistent speed and momentum.

Aventon Sinch.2

Safety

The versatile Sinch.2 can be safely used on the road, as it comes with a comprehensive lighting setup. Its bright LED headlight illuminates the road before you, while its rear lights, which are integrated into the frame, cleverly double as turn signals.

In this model, you are also getting rack and fenders included as standard accessories so you can hit the road right away.

Possible Cons

Riders who prefer hydraulic brakes on their ebikes will have to look someplace else. Also, if you’re looking for a truly portable electric bike that is both compact and lightweight, the Sinch.2 is not for you.

Summary

The Aventon Sinch.2 delivers a consistently reliable ride—a remarkable achievement that removes any concerns about the stability of a folding e-bike. Its robust construction and premium components ensure a confidence-inspiring ride that matches the performance of its non-folding fat-tyre counterparts.

It’s a disservice to merely label the Sinch.2 as a folding ebike. On the contrary, it’s a true all-terrain performer…that just happens to fold.

The Sinch.2 is great for you if:

Consider another model if:

You are looking for a compact and versatile fat-tyre electric bike.

You are expecting to get a lightweight folding e-bike.

You have limited storage space at home, at work, or inside your vehicle or RV.

You need an e-bike that can achieve the highest top speeds.

You appreciate a stable ride with ample power for hill-climbing.

You prefer hydraulic brakes in your rides.

Got cargo to carry or kids to transport? Get the Abound.

$3,499 - Shop Now

Aventon Abound

If you often find yourself struggling with balancing oversized backpacks or strapping bulky items to your rear rack, it’s time to upgrade to an electric cargo bike. The Aventon Abound’s storage solution allows you to conveniently load groceries, transport heavy gear, or take your kids and pets along for a fun ride.

In many electric cargo bikes, especially those at the sub-3500 price range, practicality takes precedence over aesthetics, prioritising capacity over visual appeal. The Abound, however, defies the notion that affordable ebikes must sacrifice style for functionality by integrating good components and spacious storage into a sleek but powerful frame.

As expected, the 37-kg Abound is the heaviest model in the current Aventon range. Included out of the box are a sizable rear rack, front and rear fenders, an in-frame storage bag, and running boards that double as your passengers’ footboards.

Powering the ebike is a 750W motor that propels the bike to speeds of up to 32 kph. Its mileage is equally impressive, allowing you to cover up to 80 km on a single charge.

Ride Quality and Handling

The Aventon Abound prioritises rider comfort with a wide, plush saddle and a quick-adjusting dropper seatpost that can be raised or lowered to suit the rider’s preference. This seatpost also features 20mm of suspension travel, which adds an extra layer of smoothing out bumps and road imperfections.

Of course, the Abound doesn’t rely on the seatpost alone for shock absorption, as it is also equipped with a suspension fork with 50mm travel, which does an excellent job at handling rough terrain. This suspension fork comes with a lockout; this means you can disable the suspension if you’re commuting over smooth pavements or if you need to climb hills to increase pedalling efficiency.

With these features in place, the Abound confidently tackles almost any terrain. And to ensure dependable and efficient stopping power, the Abound employs Tektro hydraulic disc brakes—a necessity considering the load the ebike is designed to carry.

Performance

Even though it is not designed to be as quick and agile as, say, the Level.2 or the Soltera.2, the Aventon Abound is remarkably sprightly, even when loaded with cargo or carrying a passenger. This responsiveness can be largely attributed to the ebike’s robust motor and the addition of a torque sensor.

The Abound boasts a total maximum carrying capacity of 200 kg, with its long-tailed rear rack alone supporting up to 64 kg. This means it can easily transport bulky items like camping gear or a significant amount of groceries. With the right accessories in place, it safely shuttles toddlers and smaller children.

And whether you engage the pedal assist or exclusively rely on the throttle, the Abound is adept at scaling small to moderate-sized hills. While this may be a regular feature in many electric bikes, remember that the Abound does this while carrying heavy loads.

What’s great is that the Abound is able to do all these without compromising comfort, delivering fun and engaging rides that don’t take a lot of effort on your part.

Aventon Abound

Safety

The Aventon Abound is a safe and practical e-bike that's perfect for city riding. It has a headlight and a rear brake light to keep you visible as well as an all-new turn signal functionality to let others know where you're going. Plus, there are built-in front and rear fenders to protect you and your precious cargo from splashes.

Possible Cons

Because of its design, you will likely find yourself using the Aventon Abound in situations that require you to ride around the city, navigate school zones, and pull out of parking lots. For this reason, the inclusion of a bell or horn would have been a valuable safety feature, especially when transporting young passengers.

Summary

The Aventon Abound is the ultimate cargo electric bike. It’s clearly the best cargo e-bike in its price range, but even when you remove the price tag from the equation, the performance the Abound delivers is easily up to par with its more expensive counterparts.

The Abound is a highly dependable ride that is capable of carrying everything you need, from groceries to kids, without sacrificing speed or power and overall rider comfort.

The Abound is great for you if:

Consider another model if:

You are looking for a great and affordable cargo electric bike.

You primarily need an ebike that can handle extreme off-road trails.

You need a cargo e-bike that’s as stylish as it is safe.

You prefer a lightweight commuter e-bike for solo riding.

You want a powerful ride that is stable but can also handle hills.

You need a ride that is more portable and compact.

Step-Over or Step-Through?

Across Aventon's e-bike lineup, excluding the Sinch and Abound models, you'll have the option to select either a step-over or step-through frame. This decision comes after identifying the specific model that best suits your riding needs and preferences.

So, how do you know which option to get?

The more popular option is the traditional step-over frame. Step-over bikes are designed for more efficient pedalling and are ideal for handling various terrains and riding up hills. Because this design has stood the test of time, you are sure that your step-over bike will last you many years.

Apart from its performance, its stiff and diamond-shaped geometry is often favoured by riders who prefer a more aggressive and sportier aesthetic in their ebikes.

However, step-over electric bikes pose a challenge for individuals with limited flexibility or mobility. It’s also not the best option for shorter or heavier riders, either. In these cases, a step-through frame provides a more accessible and user-friendly alternative.

Step-through bikes are easier to mount and dismount. Generally more popular with female riders, they offer a comfortable upright riding position, which is perfect for casual and leisurely rides.

A step-through bike is also more practical for riders who need to frequently hop on and off their bikes (like delivery riders), the older demographic who prefer easier accessibility, or people commuting to work wearing formal office attire.

Ultimately, there is no right or wrong option, and deciding between a step-over and a step-through frame all boils down to your priorities. If you value performance over comfort, go for a step-over bike. On the other hand, if you need your ride to be more accessible, opt for a step-through frame.
