DESCRIPTION
The Level.2 has only just been launched and has already been dubbed Aventon’s best eBike to date by Electric Bike Report. The Level.2 presents an exciting opportunity for Australia’s commuters by being practical, efficient, fast, & tooled up with great features that make riding the Level.2 Step Over an experience in its own right.
If you’ve been seeking an electric bike to tackle your commute, but have found the prices on the wrong side of expensive, the Aventon Level.2 is for you. You’ll find the same, if not better performance, & technology to match at a lower price than you’d expect.
The Level.2 Step Over comes with a 500W rear hub motor that can actually produce a peak of 750W. This puts the Level.2 as one of the more powerful eBikes in the Aventon Range. Riders won’t struggle for power regardless of their route.
This motor can power the ride to a top speed of 32 kph when using the throttle on its own, or 45 using pedal assist.
Like most of the Aventon range, the Level.2 Step Over comes with impressive hill climb ability. Not only can it get up most hills in throttle-only mode with an average speed of around 10-15kph, but on pedal assist level 5, you’ll be able to get over any incline significantly faster.
While torque sensors aren’t a new concept, this is the first time an Aventon eBike has come equipped with one. These work by measuring how much effort you are putting into pedalling as opposed to how fast you pedal, and it will dynamically adjust its power output to compliment your current riding style. It produces a ride that feels much more intuitive, natural & fluid.
You can expect front fenders, rear fenders, front & rear lights, and a rear rack all as standard on the Level.2 Step Over. This means that despite the Level.2’s higher price point compared to its siblings, you actually get more for your money.
For the Level.2, the throttle has been upgraded to remove the lag found on earlier models. This makes the eBike more responsive. This throttle can also be disabled with the Aventon app, or removed entirely if required.
You’ll find a double-butted aluminium frame for the Level 2 Step Over, which gives riders exceptional stability. Weighing in at 24kg, the ride produced feels solid, and the bike feels responsive. The Step Over frame is great for those a little shorter in height or with mobility issues that make mounting the Step Over variant a little harder. As this bike is built with commuters in mind, it’s better for cyclists wearing more restrictive clothing, such as suits.
The Level.2 Step Over is designed with commuters in mind, and a healthy middle-ground of the Aventon range. While not as light as the Soltera, you get better hill-climb ability & more power. While not as fast as the Aventure, it weighs significantly less, and the difference in speed isn’t that much. Everything about the Level.2 has been designed to make commuting easier, faster, & more comfortable.
Buying a commuter eBike is hard in Australia, notably because it’s hard to know what’s a good price. Other brands produce some great eBikes but at a price point that makes your eyes water. In most cases, affordable e-Bikes make sacrifices that, on paper, seem fine, but can negatively impact your ride. You’ll lack power, or you’ll get an uncomfortable ride, or you’ll find your range limited, or you’ll get stuck on hills. To get what you want, you’ll find yourself tossing up whether $5,000 for an e-Bike is really worth it just to get to work & back.
With the Aventon Level.2, you don’t get that. You get a powerful motor that’ll never leave you wanting for speed. Aventon Level.2 Step Over Electric Bike

I’ve been using the Aventon Level.2 Step Over Electric Bike for the past 28 days, and I’m happy to share my feedback. Here’s a quick rundown of my experience:
Total distance: 415km, Riding time: 16 hours, Avg speed 25.9kmh
Performance: The motor performance and overall ride feel are just what I expected and wanted after watching reviews on youtube. The bike is powerful, but only when I want it to be (by pedalling). It feels smooth to ride and somehow I feel safe upon the heavy tank that it is.
Comfort: The design and ergonomics of the bike, especially the step-over frame, provide excellent comfort on my daily commute to the city (about 17km each way).
Battery Life: The battery life has been OK, it's a bit up and down depending on the wind factor. I've used as little as 25% to travel 34km, and up to 70% for the same trip on a different day. I’ve found the charging process easy, plugging directly into the bike each day when I get home. I have a feeling the bike falsely reports it is 100% charged - the charger will still be red for some time after getting to 100%. The days I let it charge until the light turns green, I seem to have more battery power remaining when I arrive at work.
Features: I really appreciate the display, the cargo tray is nice and large enough to strap my backpack onto. Also love the brake lights, which stand out particularly at night time. The Aventon app is a must have too, the maintenance section is a handy reminder to check things out now and then.
Negatives: While I love many aspects of the bike, I’ve noticed the chain slipping occasionally. It's happened maybe 3 times for about 10-15 seconds where I've lost all torque, it feels like the chain has come off. I think it might be down to motor overload or something, it happens when I'm in assist level 5. I also wish the integrated front light had a flash mode rather than just ON, in order to preserve some battery. As a result I rarely use it. Lastly the handgrips I don't find that comfortable but I will replace at some stage with something more to my liking.
Overall Impression: The Aventon Level.2 Step Over has met my expectations, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an efficient, stylish electric bike. I've had a few people ask me about it on my travels, it's a real head turner and has some presence on the road or on the bikeway.

Took many weeks to arrive due to it needing to be imported from the US but now it has arrived and is great.
Cadence sensor is cheaper and more common but harder to control. It essentially feels more like an on/off switch. On the other hand, a torque sensor offers a more natural riding assistance, as it syncs with your pedaling effort. Riding a bike with a torque sensor feels much closer to riding a regular bicycle, providing better control and smoother power delivery. Yes, you can ride your Level.2 in throttle mode. Please take note that the speed limit for throttle mode is limited to 32 kph (as opposed to 45 kph on Pedal Assist).
Yes. In case you want to ride in an area where throttles are prohibited, you can operate your Level.2 with the throttle unplugged and removed.
Two of the most important changes in the Level.2 are its sensor and and increase in range. The Level.1 was equipped with a cadence sensor, while the Level.2 is upgraded to have a torque sensor. Level.2 also comes with upgraded lights and a colored display screen.
Aventon's e-bike lineup, excluding the Sinch and Abound models, includes step-over and step-through options. Step-over bikes are designed for more efficient pedalling and have a more aggressive, sportier aesthetic. Meanwhile, step-through bikes are easier to mount and dismount and offer a comfortable upright riding position. Choose a step-over frame if you value performance over comfort, or choose a step-through frame if you need your ride to be more accessible.
The Level.2 comes in two sizes: Regular and Large. Choose Regular if you are between 5'3" - 5'10" tall. Choose Large if you are 5'10" - 6'4" tall.
The Level.2 goes as fast as 45 kph on pedal assist and 32 kph on throttle mode.
Under ideal riding conditions, the Level.2 can cover up to 97 km on a single charge.
With an IPX4 water-resistance rating, the Aventon Level.2 is resistant to water splashes from any direction and can handle light rain and shallow puddles without sustaining damage.

Power it off and choose a cool and dry indoor location. Do not store in excessively cold or hot environments, and avoid storing your Aventon Level.2 outdoors for extended periods. Store the bike upright and avoid hanging it by the handlebars or seatpost. Remember to fully charge your battery if you are going to be storing your Level.2 for longer than 4 weeks.
If you intend to store the Aventon Level.2 for an extended period, be sure not to leave the battery attached to the bike frame. Remove it from your ebike, and remember to charge the battery to a 75-80% range. Leaving it completely discharged can damage the battery. Afterwards, keep checking to make sure the battery percentage doesn't drop under 75%.
